Health Tip: Protein in your Diet

How much is the right amount of protein for you?

Did you know the CDC recommends 46 grams per day of protein for women over the age of 19 and 56 grams of protein for men over the same age? Other research says between 10-35% of your daily calories should be from protein and the old standard way was .4-.8grams of protein per kilogram of ideal body weight.  To find your weight in kilograms divide your weight by 2.2. Take this number and multiply it by .4.  This would indicate the amount of protein in grams you would need in a day. It is important to remember that excess calories, of any kind, get stored as fat. Please check with your doctor or registered dietician to determine what the correct amount is for you and any medical conditions you may have.
