Health Insurance Consortium

Business owners today are looking for a better, more cost effective way to provide high quality health benefits to their employees. Forming a Health Insurance Consortium may be the answer for some businesses.

Ultimately a Health Insurance Consortium allows individual businesses with approximately 50-300 employees to join together, increasing their purchasing power. This also allows the participating businesses to have access to the self insured market without the traditional risks of self insurance. This is an area that’s usually unavailable to companies of this size.

There is little risk involving a health consortium. Each participating business maintains the ability to have a plan that works for their company. There is access to high quality medical care and the opportunity to stabilize cost by pooling with other businesses to obtain the best rates possible with the reinsurance. With a traditional health insurance program the employer pays the insurance company premium with no real possibility of future credit. With the health consortium there is the possibility of credit for subsequent years. In other words, if an employer pays the insurance premium, but doesn’t use all of the benefits they paid for, they have the opportunity to apply the unused money toward premium the following year.
